Date: November 2002
Chartered in 1970 with 26 charter members, the Optimist Club of Coronado has grown over
the years to over 150 members. The club sponsors both an Octagon Club and a Junior
Optimist Club in Coronado. The club has also been the sponsor club of three new Optimist
Clubs in the Cal-South District. Having been designated an Honor Club numerous times, the Home
Club of four District Governors, and the Home Club of two International Vice Presidents
since its founding, the club continues to serve the community of Coronado in a wide range
of activities. The support of youth programs is the focus of the clubs' efforts along with
community service projects. The annual budget for youth programs and community service for
the year 2002-2003 is approximately $24,000. Funds are raised primarily through two
fundraising events: a Spring Concert for the Community, and a Sports Fiesta held in late
July. In addition to providing funds, the club members also volunteer their time in an
Adopt-a-Highway project, at track meets and lacrosse games, and at a variety of youth
recreational events. The club meets weekly at 7:00 A.M., Thursday mornings, at the
Coronado Yacht Club. Base. |
